Darren Hobson Photography Outdoor Studio family photographer in Louth and Lincolnshire
From start to finish; the entire shoot was not only easy, it was fun and relaxing. Not only did you capture some truly beautiful pictures of our family but you put my little ones at total ease.

What better way to spend time with your family than a fun, relaxed and comfortable photo session in beautiful natural surroundings with the keepsake of timeless images in an informal carefree style?

As a Louth, Lincolnshire based professional family and portrait photographer, I know some great locations to capture fabulous easy-going and discreet images of you and your family. With my Outdoor Studio natural photoshoots, you can expect a very relaxed and informal session where we will work together to produce a series of natural-looking images of you and your family or friends.  Whilst I suggest ideas of images and set you and your family into comfortable semi-poses, I will also shoot images as they happen and especially candid images that you probably won't even know have been taken!

Outdoor Studio photoshoots ensure that everyone is able to get involved and play their part in producing a set of wonderful images for all the family

Your photoshoot will take between one and on-and-a-half hours but if it takes longer - no problem!  Outdoor Studio sessions work around the pace of those involved and, whilst they generally work well with up to six people, I am very used to accommodating larger groups and making sure that everyone gets involved.  That way, no one is left standing around for very long waiting to jump in and have their photographs taken!  If you have little ones or ones with short attention spans, having someone else around that can provide a source of entertainment can be useful and often those moments when they need a little time and space to themselves result in some of the most fantastic candid images without them even realising it.

Finding a location is just the start of creating spectacular images

Your photoshoot can take place pretty much anywhere; however my experience as a professional family and portrait photographer suggests that a large open space, such as a park or large garden, is a good option.  This gives everyone plenty of space and we can always find some interesting spots that get you away from everyone else - especially important if you aren’t a massive fan of having your photograph taken! Whilst I have plenty of ideas of some great locations which provide fabulous backdrops, I always love to hear your suggestions. If you have a particular location in mind, do let me know when you get in touch to book your Outdoor Studio session. Around Lincolnshire there are so many wonderful places for your images such as Hubbard’s Hills on the edge of Louth, Ostlers Plantation near Woodhall Spa, People’s Park in Grimsby, Willingham Woods near Market Rasen and some of the many wonderful beaches along the East Lindsey coastline being some of my personal favourites.

There’s definitely no need to say ‘Cheese’!

It's surprising how often people say something like, "I don't like having my picture taken!"  There's nothing to worry about, we've all been self-conscious in front of a camera at some point.  Just remember one thing: you're there to have a fun and relaxed time with your family or friends and those are the natural shots that we're looking to achieve. I will place you in spots that I think will work well for the images we are trying to create, give you guidance and reassurance about how to sit or stand, and simply ask you to talk and interact with each other. Sometimes I will ask you to look in my direction but there’s certainly no need for false smiles! An Outdoor Studio session is designed to be a fun, relaxed and comfortable experience.

From start to finish, we had a wonderful couple of hours as a family, with Darren putting everyone at ease. His friendly and professional manner resulted in some amazing family photographs (even for those of us who dislike having our photographs taken).

What do I get asked the most?

  • Your outdoor photoshoot will last around one-and-a-half hours. Afterwards, you will be able to view your images in your online gallery. Once you have selected your favourite images from the session, they will be fully edited and you will be able to download them. We can arrange to get them printed if you wish.

  • During your session I will capture many images. Afterwards you will be able to view the unedited proofs of the images and select your favourite 25 images which will be edited, which you can them download in high resolution from your private password-protected gallery on to your devices. All of the images can be edited in both colour and also in black and white. If you would like additional images, I can give you a current price for those as well as a quote should you want canvases, wall art or prints.

  • Your outdoor photo session can take place in most outdoor settings. If you have a particular location that you have in mind, please do let me know about it when you get in touch. Local parks are always great options. I can suggest some fabulous locations depending on where you have in mind. Please do ask if you aren’t sure that a location you have in mind would be suitable.

  • Generally, up to six people is a good number. This way no one is left standing around for very long waiting to get involved. If you would like certain pairs or groupings concentrated on, please let me know beforehand. I always aim to create compositions that include all of the possible permutations in a group during the course of the photoshoot.

If you have young children or ones with short attention spans, having someone else around that can provide a source of entertainment whilst others are having their photos taken can be extremely useful.

  • I always suggest something slightly dressy for an outdoor photo session but you can wear anything that you are both comfortable in and that is also practical. Because the photoshoots take place in outdoor locations there is always the possibility of grass, uneven surfaces or even a little mud. So long as you’re fine with throwing a pair of trousers or a top in the washing machine after the session, that’s good for me! The bottom line is wear what you feel good in.

Similar colour schemes always work well - coordinating styles with each other and complimentary colour helps your images be cohesive and stand the test of time. I would suggest avoiding bold text or images, as these usually don’t date well.

  • My diary soon fills up so it is always a good idea to make arrangements early for your outdoor photo session, especially if you have a certain date or time of year in mind.

If you require a weekend or need to fit in with work commitments, please do let me know at the earliest opportunity so that I can check my availability for you.

  • My approach for an outdoor photo session is simple: images of you all that are comfortable, genuine and fun. The key to that - just be yourselves, enjoy each other’s company and, to a certain degree, pretend I’m not even there!

I will tell you where to stand or sit, as well as give advice on how to pose so that your images are natural. I will shoot both posed and candid images throughout your session and will give you clear directions to make your session successful and enjoyable.

  • Absolutely! In these days of social media, spotting others' photos and wondering whether an idea might work as part of your photo session is inevitable. I love to try new ideas and am always happy to give them a try.

If there is something that you would especially like to give a go, let me know before your session wherever possible. That way I can plan ahead in case it requires me to bring along an extra piece of gear or, at least, some consideration about how to achieve the desired result.

  • Apart from a sense of humour and a willingness to have fun, you shouldn't need anything else! If youngsters are involved in the photoshoot, it's a good idea to bring along a few favourite toys. These will keep them amused and provide something else to photograph them being occupied with. Something like a ball to kick around is perfect. Past experience tells me that you might also find a change of shoes useful at certain times of the year!

  • If the weather isn’t looking ideal the day before or day of your session, we will be in touch with each other to discuss your options. If we decide that it would be best to rearrange, we can do that.

Likewise, if one of you isn’t feeling too well do let me know as soon as possible so that we can rearrange. You need to be comfortable!

  • Brilliant, let’s check our diaries! First, please complete the enquiry form on this page with as much information as you can and I will get back to you as soon as possible so that we can get your outdoor photo session arranged. I’m already looking forward to it!

Let’s get you in the diary!
