As an experienced engagement photographer, what would make an engagement photoshoot even better? Getting to witness and capture the very first moments of the engagement as the proposal actually takes place! That was my brief from Matt when he contacted me to tell me about his plans for proposing to Devon at their favourite Lincoln location in the wonderful summer sunshine. Devon and Matt always have their photograph taken in the same spot with Lincoln’s incredible cathedral as a backdrop when they visit the city. Little did Devon know that on this particular afternoon, a very special unexpected surprise was in store!

Matt and I had already made arrangements so that I was in the right position for when he popped the all-important question. Taking my position, I waited patiently for Devon and Matt to ask a passer-by to take their traditional picture in their favourite spot. Right on cue, down on to one knee went Matt much to Devon’s obvious surprise and excitement - along with that of the passing crowds! What a wonderful moment and what a privilege to be involved in.
Once I had given Lincoln’s newest-engaged couple a few moments to let things sink in, we made our way off to capture more magical moments for them to be able to look back on in years to come. Firstly, we stayed in and around Lincoln’s wonderful Cathedral and made use of the great surroundings. It became very apparent very quickly what was going to be the theme of this photo session - fun and laughter! Devon and Matt had a fabulous time enjoying each other’s company while I did my thing. I love capturing unobtrusive and genuine images of couples and I had plenty of opportunity during this great photoshoot.
From their, we made our way across the cobbled square and into the grounds of Lincoln’s historic castle where we were able to create many more fantastic images and where the laughter continued. Getting to know Devon and Matt was not only really enjoyable but my experience as a professional engagement photographer shows that talking to my couples helps them feel reassured and comfortable. During my outdoor photo sessions, I don’t give lots of direction besides putting my couple in the right spot and encouraging them to chat, laugh and be themselves in order to capture natural and real moments and expressions.
I always consider it an honour to create wonderful images of lovely couples. Being an integral part of such a special and memorable occasion really was a privilege and I was delighted that I was able to use my experience and knowledge as a professional Lincoln and Lincolnshire engagement photographer to provide Devon and Matt with so many amazing memories.
